How often should you refill lashes?
Lash extensions make mornings easier and photos better. But they do not last forever, and knowing when to book a refill saves you money and keeps your lashes looking full.
Why lashes need refills
Each extension is attached to one of your natural lashes. Your natural lashes shed and regrow all the time, and when one falls, its extension goes with it. That is normal. A refill replaces the extensions you have lost and moves new ones onto lashes that have grown in since your last appointment.
How often should you book?
For most people, every 2 to 3 weeks keeps lashes looking full. Many lash studios define a refill by how much is left: if you come back with a good share of your extensions still in place, it is a refill. If most of them are gone, your technician may recommend a new full set.
A good rule: book your next refill before you leave the studio. On the LuxeFlow app, many lash studios also send a reminder when you are due.
What makes lashes last longer?
Some habits shorten the life of your set:
- Oil-based products around the eyes, including some cleansers and make-up removers, weaken the bond.
- Rubbing or pulling at your lashes.
- Sleeping face down into the pillow.
- Heavy mascara, which most technicians advise against on extensions.
- Steam and heat straight after an appointment, before the glue has fully set.
Caring for your lashes between refills
- Keep them dry for the first day or as long as your technician advises.
- Clean them gently with a lash-safe cleanser a few times a week.
- Brush them each morning with a clean spoolie.
- Use oil-free products around your eyes.
Patch tests and sensitivity
Before your first set, ask for a patch test, especially if you have sensitive eyes. A good studio will note any reaction on your client record. If your eyes ever become red, sore or swollen, do not try to remove the lashes yourself. Contact your technician or a doctor.
Choosing a lash studio
Look for a studio with clean, calm treatment rooms, technicians who explain the process, and real reviews from clients who visited. If you are new to a studio, read our tips on finding a good salon near you, which apply just as well to lash and brow studios.
Frequently asked questions
Extensions shed with your natural lash cycle, so most people lose a few every day. With good care, a set usually looks full for two to three weeks before a refill is needed.
You can, but by then many extensions will have shed and your lash technician may recommend a full set instead, which costs more and takes longer.
Many people wear them continuously with no problems. If you notice irritation, redness or swelling, remove nothing yourself and see your lash technician or a doctor. Ask for a patch test before your first set.
